Since February, I have had the pleasure of being able to intern for FlorenceTown. It has been an amazing experience, as everyone who I have met has welcomed me with open arms and made me feel as one of their own. The FlorenceTown office has a wonderful atmosphere with enthusiastic employees that make working there more enjoyable. Within these few months I have learned so much about the company, the beautiful city of Florence, the Italian culture and the language. I have met people from all over the world who book tours with the company and enjoy FlorenceTown as much as I do.
One of the perks of interning for this company is being able to join the tours that FlorenceTown has to offer. One tour in particular that I enjoyed tremendously was the Vespa Tour on the Chianti Countryside. There were four other people joining the tour, a German couple, a man from North Carolina and a study abroad student from Manchester. On the way to the Villa we are able to speak and get to know each other. They were all very nice and just as excited as I was. I was also very nervous because I had never driven a Vespa before, but when we arrived we received a training and we rode around the streets of the countryside. Unfortunately, I was not able to drive my own Vespa because I could not get the hang of it. Jacopo, one of the tour guides dedicated more time to teach me however, I decided to be a passenger with him instead of driving my own Vespa, for my own safely. This was a decision I did not regret!
Being a passenger with Jacopo was just as exciting as riding my own Vespa. While he was driving I was able to look at the breathe taking views of the Chianti region, which were spectacular. One of the most beautiful sceneries I had ever seen. We were on our way to a winery where we had a tour of the cellars with Gianluca, another Florencetown guide, and tasted two very good red wines. We got back onto the Vespa and drove for about an hour. Jacopo was full of spirit and made the ride delightful and amusing. We stopped to enjoy the view of the countryside at the top of the mountain. What a fantastic site! Afterwards we went for a sensational three course lunch and returned to the Villa. Overall it was a wonderful experience, especially because the people were friendly and the tour guides were lively and entertaining. Gianluca and Jacopo were both excellent guides. I wouldn’t mind doing this tour all over again. Maybe next time I will be comfortable enough to drive my own Vespa!
